Air National Pilot Wing
San Jose, CA 1981-1984
Air National began flying as a contract cargo carrier for Airborne Express and Purolator Courier. It received its CAB certificate for passenger flights in 1982 and acquired B-727 and B-747 for charter services. Scheduled domestic passenger authority was granted in 1983 but they never exercised this authority. In 1984 it received scheduled passenger authority to fly New York-Brussels-Athens but elected to continue with contract charters from the U.S. to London. Due to lack of aircraft and excessive scheduling, there were several contract cancellations. The company fell behind on rental payments and suspended operations July 28, 1984 and filed for bankruptcy in September.
